I decided to give one more chance and make another post about the mullet fishermen. Because I have so many images that I find important to share them. So, I randomly chose six photos to show here. I hope you enjoy.

Of course all the work is not just these few pictures here on the blog, I made more than 2000 photos, and I'm still editing which go to the book ...The celebration of the fishing is marked by two moments: a religion part, with a mass and procession for St. Peter, and a party that lasts an entire week, and that always happens in July.
A técnica da pesca artesanal da tainha é bem simples. Ao sinal dos pescadores que estão em cima do morro, os que estão na praia saem com a canoa em alta velocidade e fazem um percurso em forma de ferradura soltando a rede. Estando cercado o cardume, começa o arrastão, que conta com a ajuda de todo mundo que está na praia nesse momento. Ao final, o peixe é dividido entre os que participaram do “lanço”.
The technique of the artisanal mullet fishing is quite simple. At the signal of fishermen who are over the hill, those who are on the beach go out with the boat at high speed, and make a circle dropping the net. Being the fish surrounded begins the trawler, which has the help of everyone who is on the beach at the moment. In the end, the fish is divided between those who participated.
Os pescadores ficam mais tempo esperando o cardume do que propriamente pescando. É uma espera longa, que às vezes dura o dia inteiro. Mas sempre tem olheiros em cima do morro e na praia, pescadores experientes que não tiram o olho do mar, e que avisam os demais quando o cardume se aproxima. Enquanto isso o dia é recheado de conversas, de lendas, e de superstição.
The fishermen spend more time waiting for the fish than fishing. It's a long wait, which sometimes lasts all day. But there is always people scouting over the hill and at the beach, experienced fishermen who do not take the eye of the sea, and warn others when the fish is approaching. Meanwhile the day is filled with conversations, legends, and superstition.
Hoje vou tratar sobre as pessoas. Nas mais de 15 vezes que eu e o Túlio fomos para a Ilha do Mel fazer esse trabalho, conhecemos muitos pescadores e suas famílias. Pessoas simples, mas sinceras e decentes. Várias vezes tivemos a oportunidade de fazer nossas refeições com eles, comendo da sua comida na sua mesa. E o interessante da pesca da tainha é que entre os meses de maio e julho eles montam barracas na praia, feitas de madeira e lona, e para lá se mudam completamente. Ao final desse período desmontam tudo e deixam o meio ambiente como estava antes. Além do trabalho em si, tivemos a sorte de conhecer essas pessoas e interagir completamente com elas. Foi um grande aprendizado.
Today I'll deal about people. In more than fifteen times that Tulio and I went to Ilha do Mel to do this work, we know many fishermen and their families. A very simple people, but sincere and decent. On several occasions we had the opportunity to make our meals with them, eating their food on their table. And the interesting part of mullet fishing is that between the months of May and in July they set up tents on the beach, made by wood and canvas, and there they move through. At the end of the fishing season they dismantle everything and leave the environment as it was before. Besides the work itself, we were fortunate to know these people and interact with them. It was a great learning experience.
As I promised yesterday, I'll start the series of photos about the documentary I made in 2008 and 2009 on the mullet fishing in Ilha do Mel (south of Brazil). For convenience, I'll share the photos in five parts: the island, the people, the waiting, the fishing, and the celebration.
