Recebi agora pelo correio o último exemplar da revista Aperture. Essa é uma das revistas de fotografia que eu assino (assino também a Black & White Photography). Mas a Aperture é uma revista diferente, é uma revista de arte, com uma diagramação maravilhosa e papel de primeira qualidade, além de ter um formato que parece mais ser um livro. Eu coleciono minhas revistas Aperture, guardo todas na minha estante de livros sobre fotografia. Para quem não conhece, essa é uma boa dica, e para saber mais, é só acessar o site da revista: http://www.aperture.org/
Não é uma revista que mostre apenas fotografias em preto e branco, mas eu recomendo. Abaixo, duas fotos que estão na última edição.

I just got in the mail the last issue of the Aperture magazine. This is one of the photography magazines that I read and subscribe (I subscribe also “Black & White Photography” magazine). But the Aperture is different, it’s an art magazine, with a wonderful layout and paper grade, and has a format that seems to be a book. I collect my Aperture magazines, I keep all on my shelf of photography books. For those who doesn’t know, this is a good tip, and to know more about it, just access their site: http://www.aperture.org/
It’s not a magazine that only show pictures in black and white, but I recommend. Below, two pictures that are in the latest issue.

Mercados / Markets

Gosto muito de fotografar dentro de mercados, geralmente aqueles mercados municipais, mercados de peixe, ou mercados típicos de alguma cidade. Quase sempre o resultado é muito bom, basta fazer a fotometria correta e abusar da luz existente (por isso é bom usar lentes claras). Hoje mostro uma série de seis fotografias feitas nos mais variados lugares, algumas bem antigas, com câmeras que nem tenho mais... Espero que gostem.

I really like shooting in markets, usually those municipal markets, fish markets, or typical markets of some city. Often the result is very good, I just need to make the correct photometry and abuse of available light (so it’s good to use clear lenses). Today I show a series of six pictures taken in various places, some very old ones, with cameras that I don’t have more... I hope you enjoy.

Paisagens / Landscapes #3

Hoje continuo com a série sobre paisagens sul americanas. A primeira foto foi tirada perto do vilarejo de Susques, no norte da Argentina; a segunda foi feita na estrada que liga São Pedro de Atacama, à cidade de Calama (ambas no Chile); e a última foto em algum lugar no meio da Patagônia argentina...

Today I continue the series of South American landscapes. The first picture was taken near the village of Susques in northern Argentina; the second was made on the road from San Pedro de Atacama to the city of Calama (both in Chile), and the last one was made somewhere in the middle of argentinean Patagonia…

Henri Cartier-Bresson

Por ocasião do Ano da França no Brasil, a cidade de São Paulo recebe uma exposição com 133 imagens de um dos maiores fotógrafos do século 20, o francês Henri Cartier-Bresson.
Com curadoria do editor Robert Delpire, a mostra inclui imagens realizadas por Cartier-Bresson em 23 países durante mais de 50 anos, entre 1926 e 1979. Também conta com a exibição de dois vídeos. Em "L'Aventure Moderne: Henri Cartier-Bresson", o diretor Roger Kahane acompanha o trabalho do fotógrafo pelas ruas de Paris. "Point d'interrogation?" é uma entrevista em clima intimista, dirigida por Sarah Moon.
A exposição é gratuita e está em cartaz de 16 de setembro a 20 de dezembro no Sesc Pinheiros de São Paulo (rua Paes Leme, 195. Tel.: 0/xx/11 3095-9400). Horário de Funcionamento: terça a sexta, das 10h30 às 21h30; sábados, domingos e feriados, das 10h30 às 18h30.

On the occasion of the “French Year in Brazil”, The city of São Paulo receives an exhibition of 133 images from one of the greatest photographers of the 20th century, Henri Cartier-Bresson.
Curated by the publisher Robert Delpire, the exhibition includes images taken by Cartier-Bresson in 23 countries for over 50 years, between 1926 and 1979. It also features the presentation of two movies. In "L'Aventure Moderne: Henri Cartier-Bresson", the director Roger Kahane follows the work of the photographer through the streets of Paris. "Point d'interrogation?" is an intimate interview, directed by Sarah Moon.
The exhibition is free and is showing from September 16 to December 20 in the SESC Pinheiros São Paulo (195, Paes Leme st., phone: 55 11 3095-9400). Hours: Tuesday to Friday, from 10:30 to 21:30. On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 10:30 to 18:30.

Paisagens / Landscapes #2

Como havia prometido, continuo a série sobre as paisagens da Patagônia. O avião ao lado eu encontrei na Península Valdés; a foto do coiote morto foi no meio da Patagônia Argentina; e a última foto (dos carneiros) na Patagônia Chilena. Mais uma vez, todas as fotos foram feitas com uma Nikon N6006 e filme Kodak Tri-X Pan 400. Na última foto usei filtro vermelho.

As I promised, I continue the series on the landscapes of Patagonia. The airplane beside I found on Peninsula Valdes; the picture of the dead coyote was in the middle of Argentinean Patagonia, and the last one (of sheep) in Chilean Patagonia. Again, all photos were taken with a Nikon N6006 and Kodak Tri-X Pan 400 film. In the last one I used red filter.

Paisagens / Landscapes

Na época que eu tinha um veículo Land Rover, fiz algumas viagens para a Argentina e o Chile (visitei o Deserto do Atacama, a Patagônia, e a Terra do Fogo). As paisagens são sempre belíssimas, ao mesmo tempo em que são inóspitas. Hoje posto três fotos (a segunda foto é na temível Ruta 40), com a promessa que amanhã posto mais algumas. Todas foram feitas com uma Nikon N6006 e com filme Kodak Tri-X Pan 400.

When I had a Land Rover vehicle I made a few trips to Argentina and Chile (I visited the Atacama Desert, Patagonia, and Tierra del Fuego). The scenery is always beautiful, at the same time they are inhospitable. Today I’m posting three pictures (the second picture is in the dreaded “Route 40”), with the promise that tomorrow I will post some more. All were taken with a Nikon N6006 and Kodak Tri-X Pan 400 film.

World Trade Center

Essa é minha pequena homenagem às mais de três mil pessoas mortas no atentado às torres gêmeas do World Trade Center, no dia 11 de setembro de 2001. Serve para lembrar que a que o radicalismo não leva a nada, somente à incompreensão humana.

This is my small tribute to more than three thousand people killed in the attack on the World Trade Center twin towers, on September 11, 2001. It serves to remind that the radicalism only leads us to the human misunderstanding.

Filhos / Children

Fiquei alguns dias ausente pois fui passar o feriado da independência em São Paulo. Estava ótimo, não pelo clima, mas pela companhia dos meus filhos, Iago e Bernardo. São eles que aparecem nos retratos abaixo, em fotos antigas, mas que gosto muito. Hoje eles têm, respectivamente, 12 e 10 anos de idade.

I was out a few days because I was spending the independence holiday in Sao Paulo. It was great, not by the weather, but by the company of my children, Iago and Bernardo. They are appearing in the pictures below, old pictures, but some that I love. Today they have, respectively, 12 and 10 years of age.

Eastman Kodak

Hoje faz 121 anos que George Eastman registrou a marca Kodak nos Estados Unidos, e começou a produzir câmeras fotográficas acessíveis ao público em geral. Foi no dia 4 de setembro de 1888. No início as câmeras eram carregadas com filmes de 100 poses, e então retornavam à fabrica da Eastman para serem reveladas e ampliadas. Centenas foram os lançamentos da Kodak nesses anos, tanto de filmes como de câmeras. Na minha coleção particular tenho o privilégio de ter as câmeras Kodak nº1 e a nº3, ambas com fole vermelho. No momento não tenho fotografias delas, mas vou providenciar e fazer um post exclusivo...

Today, 121 years ago, George Eastman registered the trademark Kodak in the United States, and began producing cameras accessible to the general public. It was on September 4, 1888. At first, the cameras were loaded with 100 poses films, and after shooting the photos the camera returned to the Eastman manufactures to be developed and enlarged. Hundreds were the release of Kodak over the years, both as film or cameras. In my personal collection I have the privilege of having the Kodak No.1 and No.3 cameras, both with red bellows. At the moment I have no photos of them, but I will arrange and make an exclusive post...

Nú / Nude # 5

Até onde podemos provocar, ou ser agressivos com uma foto de nu? Esse tipo de fotografia não é a minha especialidade, mas gosto muito de fazer, é um desafio, pois existe uma linha muito tênue que separa a arte da vulgaridade. Quando faço fotos de nu, busco coisas diferentes, e essas duas fotos de hoje mostram um pouco da audácia que procuro ter...

Festival de la Luz

Desde o dia 1º de junho estão abertas, a fotógrafos profissionais e amadores de todo o mundo, as inscrições para um dos mais importantes festivais de fotografia da América Latina: “Festival de la Luz”, que acontece em Buenos Aires, Argentina. O tema do festival para o ano de 2010 será “Identidades em Trânsito”, que busca tratar das migrações de pessoas pelo mundo. Os trabalhos poderão ser enviados até o dia 30 de dezembro deste ano, e os selecionados serão conhecidos através do site do festival (onde outras informações também podem ser obtidas). A curadoria está a cargo de Elda Harrington e Silvia Mangialardi.

Since the June, 1st, is open for registration one of the most important photography festivals in South America: "Festival de la Luz", held in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The theme of the festival for the year 2010 will be "Identity in Transit", which seeks to address the migration of people around the world. Entries can be submitted until December 30, 2009, and the selected works will be known through the festival's website (where other information can also be obtained). The link is: Festival de la Luz

Both professional and amateur photographers from around the world can participate.

The curator is in charge of Elda Harrington and Silvia Mangialardi.
