Iago

Meu filho mais velho, Iago, na época da foto tinha oito anos de idade, hoje tem doze... Fotografia realizada com uma Rolleiflex TLR e filme Kodak Tri-X Pan 400.

As fotografias que eu mostro hoje são de tempestade. Ou quase... É que eu sempre fotografo usando filtro amarelo, laranja, ou vermelho; sempre para destacar o céu e as nuvens. A intensidade do destaque obedece a ordem dessas cores, sendo que o filtro vermelho é o que dá mais dramaticidade à fotografia, mas também é o que causa uma maior perda de luminosidade da lente. Das fotos que adicionei abaixo, pessoalmente gosto mais da dos pingüins, exatamente por ter usado o filtro vermelho, as demais foram feitas com filtro laranja, e em todas eu usei câmeras Nikon e filmes Ilford ou Kodak.

The photos I show today are of the storm. Or almost storm ... Because I always use yellow, orange, or red filter when I shot; to highlight the sky and clouds. The intensity of this highlight follows the order of these colors, and the red filter is what makes the picture more dramatic, but is also what cause the greater loss of light from the lens. Among the photos that I uploaded below my favorite one is of penguins, exactly because I have used the red filter. The others were made with orange filter, and for all I’ve used Nikon cameras and Kodak or Ilford roll films.

Pescadores / Fisherman

Hoje estou indo de novo para ilha do mel, é a sétima vez desde que comecei o trabalho sobre a pesca da tainha (um documentário em fotografia e em cinema). Ainda vou fazer um post grande sobre o assunto aqui no blog, mas hoje, só para mostrar um pouco, adiciono essas três fotos.

Nú / Nude #4 (Arquivo X / X-File)

Essa modelo é uma amiga minha, apesar de muito bonita e dona de um corpo perfeito, não gosta muito de fazer fotos de nú. É bem difícil convencê-la, mas, depois, é fácil fazer boas fotos... Por respeito, preservo a sua identidade. O trabalho foi feito no pequeno estúdio da minha casa, com uma câmera analógica Nikon F80 e filme Ilford Hp-5 400.

This model is a friend of mine, although she’s very beautiful and owner of a perfect body, she not really like to make nude pictures. It is very difficult to convince her, but if you can convince, then it is easy to make good pictures ... For respect, I preserve their identity. The pictures where made in my small home studio, with an analog Nikon F80, and Ilford Hp-5 400 roll film.

Bernie DeChant

O americano Bernie DeChant faz de suas fotografias obras de arte, com títulos sugestivos. Em algumas narra fatos, que estão à disposição de todos, mas que só o olhar atento do fotógrafo consegue destacar. Em outras, cria imagens que parecem cenas em quadros pintados, com plástica de fotografia de cinema. Faz poesia sem utilizar uma só palavra.
Na seleção feita pelo curador Andy Patrick, uma das características da obra de DeChant que chama a atenção do observador são os grafismos, que ele obtém através do corte do objeto escolhido, do ângulo e da luz. Com formação em design gráfico, DeChant transporta todo esse conhecimento para suas imagens; por vezes coloridas, em outras preto e branco, mas sempre em permanente diálogo uma com a outra, como poderá ser percebido na montagem das obras na sala expositiva.

The American photographer Bernie DeChant makes pieces of art, always with suggestive titles. In some pictures he narrates some facts that are available to everyone, but only the eyes of the photographer to highlight. In others, he creates images that appear painting scenes. He makes poetry without using a single word.
In the selection made by the curator Andy Patrick, one of the characteristics of his work that draws the attention of the observer are the graphics, which he obtained through the cutting of the object chosen, the angle and light. With training in graphic design, DeChant carries all this knowledge to their images, sometimes colored, sometimes black and white, but always in constant dialogue one with another, as can be seen in the assembly of works in the exhibition hall.

A Arte de Filipe Franco / The Filipe Franco's Fine Art

Conheço o Filipe já faz alguns anos, é um fotógrafo radicado no arquipélago dos Açores, em Portugal. Seu trabalho fotográfico é vasto e maravilhoso, e confesso que não foi fácil escolher apenas algumas fotografias do seu acervo para colocar aqui no blog. São milhares de fotos excelentes, tanto coloridas como preto e branco. Acabei escolhendo alguns dos seus trabalhos mais recentes. Mas quem quiser conhecer mais, é só clicar aqui, e entrar na sua página do Flickr.
Mas o Filipe não é apenas fotógrafo, é também um dos melhores (senão o melhor) crítico de fotografia que eu já conheci. Faz análises precisas, basta ele olhar alguns segundos para uma imagem e já é capaz de entendê-la, de fazer uma descrição profunda sobre o sujeito, sobre o enquadramento, sobre os elementos, etc...
Para mim é um prazer poder apresentá-lo aqui no blog, espero que gostem.

I know Filipe a few years, is a photographer based in the Azores Islands, Portugal. His photographic work is vast and wonderful, and I confess that it was not easy to choose just a few photographs from his collection to put here on the blog. But Filipe is not only photographer, he’s also one of the best (if not the best) critical of photography I have ever met. He makes precise analysis, and needs just a simply look for a picture, a few seconds, to be able to understand it, to make a thorough description on the subject, on the framework, the elements, etc ...

Lomografia / Lomography

Hoje vou mostrar um pouco da nova mania entre os fotógrafos do mundo inteiro: a lomografia, que é a arte de fotografar com baixa tecnologia. Esse movimento surgiu a partir das câmeras LC-A LOMO, mas hoje agrega todas as câmeras “trash”, de plástico, com pouca (ou nenhuma) regulagem, e que na maior parte das vezes deforma a imagem. Entre as marcas favoritas dos amantes da lomografia, além da LOMO, estão também a DIANA e a HOLGA. Eu tenho Uma HOLGA 120 CSN, totalmente de plástico, com abertura fixa de f:8 e sem ajustes de velocidade e de foco. As fotos abaixo foram feitas com filme médio formato Kodak T-MAX CN, expirado em 1999. Espero que gostem.

Today I show a little of the new fad among photographers around the world: the lomography, which is the art of shooting with low technology. Eu estive durante toda essa semana na Ilha do Mel, no litoral do Estado do Paraná, fazendo um trabalho sobre os pescadores de Tainha. Logo vou postar algumas fotos sobre esse trabalho, mas hoje, voltando à ativa, escolhi outras fotos de Cuba...

I have been throughout this week in “Ilha do Mel” (Honey Island), in the State of Paraná (Brazil), doing a job with the fishermen. Soon I will post some pictures about this work, but today, returning to active, I have choose some other pictures from Cuba ...

Futebol / Football / Soccer (II)

No último post coloquei fotos sobre futebol realizadas por fotógrafos da Magnum. Como estou contente com o futebol do meu time (Coritiba, que meteu 5 no Flamengo ontem), continuo no mesmo assunto. Só que agora estou adicionando algumas fotos sobre futebol de minha autoria. Não querendo compará-las com as da Magum... (a foto ao lado é em Piraí do Sul-PR, Brasil, 2005, com uma Rolleiflex).

In the last post I added some pictures about football (soccer), held by the Magnum photographers. As I am happy with the performance of my team (Coritiba Foot Ball Club), I keep with the same subject. The difference is that now the pictures are of my authorship. Well, but In any case want to compare them with those of Magum… (The picture above is in Piraí do Sul-PR, Brazil, 2005, with a Rolleiflex).

Vamos Falar de Futebol / Let's Talk About Soccer

O Brasil é penta Campeão Mundial de futebol, e eu sou brasileiro, portanto sim, hoje vamos falar de futebol!
Eu gosto muito de futebol, embora não jogue. Na infância eu era o menino que ninguém queria no time, ou que ficava sempre na posição de goleiro. Na verdade confesso, só marquei um único gol em toda minha vida. Mas sou fanático torcedor do Coritiba Foot Ball Club, o alviverde do Alto da Glória! Fico de mau humor quando meu time perde, e em hipótese alguma uso as cores preto e vermelho – cores de um time rival...
Para quem não sabe (os estrangeiros) o “Coritiba” é o time da cidade de “Curitiba”, onde moro. Fundado em 1909, foi 33 vezes Campeão Estadual e uma vez Campeão Brasileiro, em 1985. Neste ano de 2009 foi o 3º colocado na Copa do Brasil. Hoje disputa a primeira divisão do futebol brasileiro, e seu escudo é este que aparece na primeira foto.

Brazil is five times Soccer World Champion, and I am Brazilian, so yes, today we will talk about football!

I love football, but I not play. In childhood I was the kid that nobody wanted at the time, or who was always in the position of goalkeeper. And I confess, I’ve marked only a single goal throughout my life. But I am fanatical fan of Coritiba Foot Ball Club, the white/green from the neighborhood of “Alto da Glória”. I get crabby when my team loses, and under any circumstances I use the black and red colors - colors of a rival team ...

For those who do not know (foreigners) the "Coritiba” is the team of the city of “Curitiba”, where I live. Founded in 1909, it was State Champion 33 times, and once Brazilian League Champion, in 1985. In this year, 2009, it was in the 3rd place of the Brazilians Cup. Today dispute the first division of Brazilian Soccer League, and its shield appears in the first photo.

Mas como dedico esse post ao futebol, nada melhor do que recorrer aos fotógrafos da agência Magnun para ilustrá-lo. Desse modo coloco algumas fotos retiradas do livro “Magnum Soccer”, editado pela Phaidon, que é possível comprar através do site da Amazon.
Claro que o livro não tem apenas fotos em preto e branco, tem muitas fotos coloridas excelentes, mas por um motivo óbvio apenas selecionei fotografias em preto e branco (com exceção da foto da capa).
O canal de televisão PFC (canal pago exclusivo sobre futebol) também lançou um livro de fotografias sobre o tema, o livro chama-se “Torcedor”. Ainda não o comprei, mas quando comprar posto algumas fotos aqui. (abaixo, © Henri Cartier-Bresson / Kildare (Irlanda), 1962.

Thus I’ve scanned some photos from the book "Magnum Soccer", published by Phaidon, and that you can buy through the Amazon Web site. The television channel PFC (a brazilian soccer exclusive paid channel) also launched a photographic book on the theme, the book is called "Fan".
